As we move into shorter days and longer nights, many of us are yearning for connection and inspiration. We believe that the power of storytelling is a powerful thing, and often a reminder that softens us to one another as we immerse ourselves into a story that isn’t our own. It’s a way to be exposed to new ideas, different cultures, and human experiences that remind us of the ways that we are all a part of the same ecosystem.
A lot of you have been asking what’s next for AIFF. We are brainstorming, strategizing, crunching numbers, and figuring it out. But in the meantime, it sure feels like we could all use a little levity.
As we close out the year, we’ll be offering a few community screenings with the aim to have fun, remember our playful spirit, and simply enjoy time together in person.
This month we are offering Waiting for Guffman on Wednesday, November 20th. We will also be offering some films that will be sure to delight the whole family next month. Save the dates of December 13-15th, and stay tuned for title announcements and showtimes!
Waiting for Guffman is directed by Christopher Guest, a brilliant comedy writer and director. Guest’s career took off after making his first mockumentary, This is Spinal Tap in 1984. Fun fact: he also played the role of the six fingered man in The Princess Bride! This film continues Guest’s unique brand of mockumentary comedy.
The story takes place in the fictional small town of Blaine, in which a quirky community theater director is putting together an original play to present in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the town. A ridiculous cast of characters comes together, and they all become consumed with a shared and possibly delusional dream. The star studded cast includes Parker Posey, Catherine O’Hara, Fred Willard, Christopher Guest, Eugene Levy, and more.
